Residential rehabilitation

Anyone in North Ayrshire seeking support with an alcohol or drug problem can access a range of community and residential treatment and care options.

Residential detoxification and shorter term rehabilitation support is available to all residents of Ayrshire and Arran within Ward 5, Irvine.

Individuals seeking to access external residential rehabilitation support can do so via NADARS who will support the development of a care plan, identify a provider, seek funding, and then support individuals throughout and after their external residential rehab placement.

Local support: Ward 5, Woodland View

Ward 5 is a residential alcohol and drug unit, which provides a specialist service for residents of Ayrshire and Arran over the age of 16, who have an alcohol and/or drug problem and mental health issues. The ward has 10 beds for residential care (5 for rehabilitation and 5 for detoxification) with an additional 8 day care places available. This is based in Woodland view, Ayrshire Central Hospital. 

Ward 5 provides a flexible service based on the needs of each individual. The main treatment is through one-to-one support and group work, with workshops designed to support each person on their road to recovery.

Treatments available consist of:

  • a detoxification programme (usually up to 1 week)
  • a residential 4 week programme
  • assessment of mental health and wellbeing
  • a structured day attendance programme

External residential rehabilitation

Access to external residential rehab services is supported via NADARS. Staff work with individuals and their families to assess and screen for suitability for residential rehab. They will seek funding and support individuals on their Pathway into - through - and out of external rehabilitation.

Harper House offers specialist support for the whole family to recover from the harms of problematic drug and alcohol use, offering a family-focused programme of interventions designed to benefit each member of the family and the family unit as a whole. It is a Care Inspectorate registered service, funded by the Scottish Government and provided by Phoenix Futures.
