North Ayrshire Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service (NADARS)

NADARS offers confidential support and advice to anyone experiencing problems with their drug and/or alcohol use. 

What we do

We offer different interventions including:

  • support to stop taking drugs and/or alcohol
  • mental health services related treatment and support
  • physical and sexual health interventions
  • injecting equipment provision, or needle exchange
  • Medication Assisted Treatment, prescribing medication, psychological, and social support
  • naloxone training and supply
  • occupational therapy
  • alcohol brief interventions
  • medication monitoring and management
  • a recovery approach tailored to specific needs, with regular reviews
  • a joint approach to help individuals identify recovery goals
  • home visits and support to attend appointments.

In North Ayrshire, the community alcohol and drug service is an integrated NHS and North Ayrshire Council Addiction service – the North Ayrshire Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service (NADARS). In addition to the above interventions, this service also offers:

  • recovery focused, one-to-one and group work programmes covering topics including; self-management, relapse prevention, improving self-confidence and self-esteem
  • social work assessment, interventions and social care related support
  • peer recovery support.

How to make a referral

NADARS has an open referral process. Referrals are accepted from:

  • individuals
  • family members
  • carers
  • prison services
  • primary care
  • Scottish Ambulance Service
  • Emergency Department
  • partner agencies or any support service.

You can make a referral by; phone, letter, email, or in person.

Sharing of information

There may be occasions when NADARS will need to share information with other services to protect children and vulnerable adults. We will also keep your GP updated as to your progress.

Turning Point Scotland North Ayrshire Prevention, Early Intervention and Recovery (PEAR) Service

PEAR is an alcohol and other drug support service which promotes a culture of recovery across North Ayrshire. Turning Point Scotland deliver the service and offer support to reduce or abstain from drug or alcohol use. The service offers one-to-one, group, and family/carer support. Anyone can refer into the service.

Alcohol and Drug Services - Prevention and Service Support Team (PSST)

PSST is responsible for the development, co-ordination, delivery, and facilitation of alcohol and drug related training events. Training courses are free of charge to those who live or work in Ayrshire and Arran.

The team also supports the implementation of evidence-based standards to enable the consistent delivery of safe, accessible, high quality drug treatment across Ayrshire and Arran.
