School nursing
School Nurses are qualified nurses who:
- support the health and wellbeing of all school aged children
- provide more targeted support to children and young people who face additional challenges
The Scottish Government has set out 10 priority areas for school nursing support.
These include:
- emotional health and wellbeing
- looked after children
- child protection
School nurses also support children as they transition from Early Years education into Primary 1, and from Primary 7 into S1.
Referrals are received from:
- the child or young person
- parents
- schools
- GPs
