School nursing

School Nurses are qualified nurses who:

  • support the health and wellbeing of all school aged children
  • provide more targeted support to children and young people who face additional challenges

The Scottish Government has set out 10 priority areas for school nursing support.

These include:

  • emotional health and wellbeing
  • looked after children
  • child protection

School nurses also support children as they transition from Early Years education into Primary 1, and from Primary 7 into S1.

Referrals are received from:

  • the child or young person
  • parents
  • schools
  • GPs

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child, please speak to your child’s school who will be able to offer guidance.
