Older people's day services
Our day centres provide activities and support for people over the age of 65 who:
- may feel isolated and lonely
- have mobility issues
- would benefit from regular social contact with others
We can provide transport from your home to the day centre, if your assessment shows this is necessary. Transport is wheelchair accessible.
Our day services are staffed by specially trained professionals. They are open 9am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Activities
There is an ongoing programme of events and person-centred therapeutic activities.
These help to:
- meet individual interests
- develop skills
Activities include:
- social activities
- life stories and reminiscence
- music, arts and crafts
- cooking and healthy lifestyles
- individual interests and therapies
- exercise activities
- outings
- entertainment events
Our reminiscence sessions encourage sharing of memories. This helps to promote mental activity and maintain communication skills.
What to expect
Prior to commencing the service, a member of the staff will contact you to arrange a home visit. This will provide you with further information in relation to the service and what is provided.
At your first visit, your key worker will meet you. They will show you around the centre and make sure you settle in. They will be your contact for any questions.
Your key worker will prepare a personal plan with you.
This will include:
- your likes and dislikes
- any individual support needs that you may require assistance with
Your personal plan is your record of:
- what you hope to gain from attending day services
- how you are going to achieve this
The plan will be shared with day centre staff so that they can help you achieve your goals.
If staff notice a decline in your health or ability to perform daily tasks, they can arrange for a review of your assessment of need. Your support services can then be adjusted accordingly.
Do I have to pay?
Day services are subject to our charging policy.
The current cost per person is £14.80 per day. This includes transport, personal care and meals.
A financial assessment will work out the amount you may have to contribute to the daily cost. We always take into account your ability to pay.
