Blue Badge scheme for disabled parking
Check your eligibility
You can check your eligibility online via the GOV.UK website.
The eligibility checker will determine if you meet an automatic or discretionary qualification.
After checking your eligibility, you can apply for a blue badge online or by a paper application.
Applying for a Blue Badge online
You can apply for a blue badge online via the GOV.UK website. This also has details of the documents you’ll need to provide.
A ‘Risk in Traffic’ application can only be made by post.
Please note: you will only qualify for a Blue Badge under this criterion if you have been diagnosed with a mental health, cognitive or behavioural condition that means you lack an awareness of danger from traffic, which could compromise your safety or the safety of others. This includes any mental health problem, personality disorder or learning disability.
For more information, or to request an application form, please contact the Blue Badge Team using the contact details below.

You should:
- apply to renew your Blue Badge 12 weeks before the expiry date on your current badge, to ensure that it arrives in time

If you have a current Blue Badge that is due to expire within 12 weeks, please ensure that you complete an application to renew as soon as possible.
How the Blue Badge scheme works
The Blue Badge Scheme entitles disabled drivers and passengers to parking concessions.
A blue badge permits drivers to park:
- on single or double yellow lines - as long as it is safe to do so and there are no restrictions on loading or unloading
- in public on-street parking places
- in some private car parks
Badges cost £20 and are valid for a period of 1 to 3 years
For further information, please read the Blue Badge Scheme rights and responsibilities in Scotland.
Paying for your Blue Badge
If your application is successful, you will receive a letter requesting payment of £20 for your badge.
The letter you receive will detail how this payment can be made and the payment methods accepted.
