Help with dementia

We provide support for people affected by dementia, their carers and families:

  • at our respite centre
  • in your home
  • by community outreach

Residential respite

Anam Cara is our specialist dementia respite centre based at Stoneyholm Road, Kilbirnie. Currently accommodating up to 9 guests within single room en-suite accommodation for periods of 1 to 21 nights.

Staffed by trained care practitioners, guests can participate in activities which promote:

  • independence
  • wellbeing
  • mental stimulation
  • a sense of purpose or achievement
  • physical mobility

You can use Anam Cara for respite if you:

  • have a diagnosis, or probable diagnosis of dementia
  • have had a single shared assessment undertaken
  • have a home to return to on completion of the support break.

An assessment of need can be requested from your local Health and Social Care Partnership office. Where possible, a carer’s assessment should also be provided.

If you are already in receipt of services, you should contact your care manager to see if this service would benefit you or your loved one.

Dementia Support Service

The Dementia Support Service provides advice, information and specialist support, at home or in the local community, on a short term basis.

To enable you to access the service, an assessment of need would be required to be carried out.

If you have been referred to the service, once referred to the service, a home visit will be undertaken by a member of the Dementia Support team.
