Apply for a blue badge
The Blue Badge Scheme (BBS) entitles disabled drivers and passengers to parking concessions. A blue badge permits drivers to park:
On single or double yellow lines as long as it is safe to do so and there are no restrictions on loading or unloading
In public on-street parking places
- In some private car parks
Badges cost £20 and are valid for a period of 1 to 3 years

After checking your eligibility, you can apply for a blue badge online or by a paper application form (risk in traffic is a paper application only). If you decide to use a paper application form please select the appropriate form (automatic or discretionary or risk in traffic).
You will need to provide the following when completing the application form:
- National Insurance Number or Child Reference Number
Driving License number (if you have one)
Passport style photo (it must be signed on the reverse)
1 proof of identity from the following:
- Valid driving license
- Birth or adoption certificate
- Marriage certificate
- Divorce certificate
For automatic eligibility please provide proof of disability
Choose between the online application form, or download and fill in the paper application form
If you have qualified under the automatic criteria, we will request payment when you hand in your application, proof of entitlement, proof of ID and passport photo.
If your discretionary application has been successful you will receive a letter asking you to make payment.
Payment: £20 fee (cash or cheque payable to North Ayrshire Council) in person at your local Health and Social Care Partnership office.
